TV, internet & telephone

In Düsseldorf television reception is possible either via cable network or via satellite. Reception via antenna is often not available, because landlords do not install antennas and do not allow the tenants to do so. Placing satellite dishes is often not allowed either, however, a cable connection is pre-installed.

Radio and television fees amounts to € 17.89 and has to be paid per flat per month, regardless of whether it is used or not, regardless how many radios or TVs exist in the flat, or how many people live there.
Registrations can be done easily at www.rundfunkbeitrag.de.  All necessary forms are provided there in PDF format and can be downloaded. Then you can fill them in by hand and send them via post.

Internet and telephone is often provided in packages. As providers are currently improving the cable capacities the quality varies at every location. Most of the providers offer possibilities to test cable capacities for a certain address. This could vary significantly from one street to the other.

If a telephone socket is installed in your flat already you could assume that all cable connections exist already and that your provider needs to unlock them only. You can apply for a new telephone connection or you can take over the old telephone connection from the previous tenant. Depending on which internet provider you choose, you´ll get internet access via telephone line or via the cable connection of your TV.

The prices for these services vary, often fixed contract periods (1-2 years) exist and extend automatically.
